Mumbai Crime Branch’s Unit 7 arrested a fugitive history sheeter accused of burglary and attempt to murder under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on Thursday. The 29 year old accused identified as Shiva Amogam Shetty is allegedly involved in around 20 serious criminal offences including 11 robberies and house break ins- all committed while he was out on bail.

According to the police, Shetty was behind bars since last two years and was released in January this year after the court granted him bail on the condition that he marks his attendance every week at the police station. However, Shetty violated the condition imposed on him by the court in February as he stopped visiting the police station. He even moved out from Kanjurmarg where he used to reside with his wife. As a result, police started their search for Shetty who was later traced to Kalwa based on a tip-off received by the Crime Branch Unit 7.
Shetty was nabbed from Kalwa by the Unit 7 sleuths where he lived with his wife in a rented accommodation under a different identity. During investigation, Shetty confessed to committing 11 house break-ins and robberies in areas like Mira Bhayandar, Palghar, Thane, and Navi Mumbai while being out on bail. After verifying Shetty’s involvement in these activities, the Unit 7 team handed him over to Kharghar police for further investigations as most cases are registered against him in the Navi Mumbai area. Detailing Shetty’s notoriety, the police said he was also involved in cases of armed assaults. His modus operandi included accessing buildings dressed up in immaculate clothes, posing as a relative of the residents. Shetty would often target locked flats for thefts then break open their doors and run off with valuables added the police.
