Bollywood actor Imran Khan, nephew of actor Aamir Khan, has been issued a notice by the Mumbai Police directing him to leave India by October 28, following his participation in a protest held at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10.

According to the police, action has been initiated against the actor under the relevant provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. Khan, who reportedly holds US citizenship and an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, was among those detained during the demonstration.
The protest organised in support of Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) Delhi Protest, called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. It was led by activist Tushar Gandhi. However even before the protest could begun, Mumbai Police had cracked down detaining several protestors along with the actor.
Khan’s participation drew scrutiny over his citizenship status and the rules governing political activities by foreign nationals in India.
The action against the actor follows a complaint by BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya, who questioned Khan’s participation in the agitation and urged authorities to investigate whether it violated the conditions applicable to foreign nationals and OCI cardholders.
Somaiya also sought further action from the relevant authorities, including an examination of Khan’s citizenship and immigration status.
Mumbai Police has confirmed that a Leave India Notice has been issued to Khan, directing him to leave the country by October 28. Officials have cited his participation in the protest despite not being an Indian citizen as the basis for the action.
The development raises questions about the rules applicable to foreign nationals and OCI cardholders participating in public demonstrations in India. Any further legal challenge or response from Khan would be important in determining the next steps in the matter.
As of October 15, the reported notice sets October 28 as the deadline for his departure. Further developments in the case are awaited.
