Ahan Shetty appears to be breaking a new ground with his next film. The actor, who was recently spotted outside filmmaker Vikram Bhatt’s office, is said to be in discussions to headline 1920: Cold Winter, the latest film in the 1920 franchise.
The project will mark Ahan’s first foray into the horror genre, a noticeable departure from the action-heavy space he has occupied so far. The development comes after the actor’s recent appearance in Border 2, which brought renewed attention to his work and reportedly led to a number of new offers.
For Ahan, the film could be an opportunity to move beyond the image established by his earlier work and experiment with a genre that demands a very different performance. After Border 2 gave his career a fresh push, his choice of a horror film for his next outing suggests he is looking to explore different sides of himself as an actor.
Meanwhile, Anya Singh has also joined the film as female lead opposite Ahan. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the makers felt that Anya was suited to the part and have brought her on board for what will also be her first reported outing in the horror genre. The casting brings Ahan and Anya together for the second time in a relatively short span post Border 2, where the two played a married couple.
While details about 1920: Cold Winter are being kept under wraps, the film is expected to begin production in November or December. Bhatt, who has been closely associated with horror films in Bollywood, will be collaborating with Ahan and Anya for the first time.
Bhatt, who directed the original 1920 in 2008, returns to the franchise with Cold Winter. The series has since expanded through films including 1920: Evil Returns, 1920 London, 1921 and 1920: Horrors of the Heart. Cold Winter is being described as the sixth film in the franchise.
With the two actors returning as an onscreen pair but stepping into a completely different genre, 1920: Cold Winter will mark an interesting follow-up to their Border 2 collaboration.
