In a heartwarming development, the Mumbai Coastal Road officially known as Dharmaveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Road is now open to traffic 24/7. The entire stretch including bridges, tunnels, and underpasses on both the south and north-bound lanes has been made accessible to all types of buses and four-wheelers from Saturday morning following a civic order that stated the construction work on the road is fully complete and therefore the vehicles are allowed to ply on the route without restriction.

With the full stretch of the Coastal Road now open to vehicular traffic, the north-bound connector from Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road to the Sea Link has been closed, as it is no longer required.
According to media reports, the 5.25 km-long Coastal Road promenade was formally opened to the public by the BMC on Friday. The promenade features extensive landscaping, green spaces, shaded seating, and dedicated cycling tracks. Designed as an eco-friendly recreational and fitness zone, it aims to offer citizens a refreshing public space along the coast.
Following the Bandstand and Marine Drive promenades, this is the city’s third major seafront stretch. It is accessible via pedestrian underpasses at four key locations: Bhulabhai Desai Road, Haji Ali Junction, Worli Dairy, and Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk near Worli Seaface. Access to the promenade is free for all citizens.
On its inaugural day, the Coastal Road promenade was swarmed with people who came to witness its breathtaking beauty. It is a part of the BMC’s enterprising Mumbai Coastal Road project. Out of the total 7.5 km stretch, 5.25 km is currently accessible to the public, while the remaining portion will be opened at a later stage. The promenade will be formally dedicated to the nation by Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis.
