Otherland Galle marks the debut of Otherland Hotels, a new hospitality concept built around the idea that travel should be as much about discovering a destination as it is about where one stays. Located on Matara Road, just 400 metres from Dewata Beach and 2.8 kilometres from the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort, the property draws inspiration from the region’s surf culture, music, food, craftsmanship, and rich cultural heritage.
Founded by Rishi Sreedharan, Samarth Gowda, and Emanuel Siddhartha in partnership with Beryll Group, Otherland is guided by the philosophy ‘Never the Same Twice’. Its approach places experiences, design, food, and beverage at the centre of hospitality, creating a space that encourages guests to connect with the local community and explore beyond conventional hotel experiences.

The 66-key property features 24 Ocean Rooms, 25 Terra Rooms, 12 suites and five dorms, with accommodation ranging from 27-square-metre rooms to a 70-square-metre Patio Suite. Ocean-facing rooms overlook the water, while Terra Rooms offer views of Galle’s mangroves and railway tracks. The mix of private rooms, suites, shared accommodation, and accessible rooms caters to a diverse range of travellers. Interiors by Studio Camarada combine sandy neutrals, ocean blues, earthy hues, rattan, ash, handcrafted textiles, and brass accents to reflect the character of the southern coast.

At the heart of the hotel is Bar-kery, an all-day café, bakery, bar, and social workspace that doubles as the reception. Open to walk-ins from 7 am to midnight, it serves coffee developed in collaboration with Colombo Coffee Company, seasonal fruit juices, Sri Lankan teas, house-made gelato, and a menu spanning breakfast favourites like Curry Leaf Shakshouka, baked yoghurt, caramelised red banana, and house granola to cocktails. Signature drinks reinterpret classics with local ingredients, including Ceylon cinnamon, kithul treacle, Sri Lankan coffee, and arrack.
On the rooftop, Creatures brings together a restaurant, cocktail bar, infinity pool, and music venue overlooking the Indian Ocean. Its drinks programme, led by Arijit Bose combines familiar cocktails with inventive local influences, while Chef Rajeev Kumar’s menu celebrates Sri Lankan flavours through contemporary dishes. Highlights include king coconut ceviche, yellowfin tuna tataki, Lankan fish cutlets, charcoal-grilled lamb chops, red snapper in coconut-based moilee curry, and a watalappam brûlée.

Music is central to the Creatures experience with a Void sound system and a programme curated by co-founder Emanuel Siddhartha. The weekly calendar moves from soulful Afro and R&B sets to live folk, funk and jazz fusion, followed by house, techno, and electronic music on Fridays and Saturdays. As daylight fades, the rooftop shifts from a relaxed poolside destination into a lively late-night social space.
Beyond the property, The Other Side, Otherland’s curated experience programme connects guests with the people and traditions that define Galle. Its three themes—Wild, Slow and Play offer experiences ranging from surfing at Dewata Beach, whale watching, and kayaking through Koggala Lake’s mangroves to home-style Sri Lankan cooking classes, guided walks through Galle Fort, arrack tastings, beach cricket, and tuk-tuk bar crawls. Local surfers, fishermen, artisans, chefs, guides, and musicians help shape and deliver these experiences.
With its blend of locally rooted experiences, contemporary design, culinary exploration, and music-led social spaces, Otherland Galle seeks to offer a more immersive way to experience Sri Lanka’s southern coast. The property is also expected to expand in a second phase, planned for 2027, with the addition of a gym, wellness centre, and banquet facilities.
