Filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar, known for blockbuster hits like Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai, is all set to direct rising actor Ahaan Panday in his upcoming untitled project backed by Yash Raj Films. Zafar believes Ahaan carries the timeless appeal of the classic romantic heroes audiences have cherished for decades.
Speaking about the young actor, Zafar says, “What stands out most about Ahaan is his genuine sincerity. In an era where performances can sometimes feel calculated, he brings a refreshing sense of honesty to the screen. This natural vulnerability is something that cannot be faked, and he embraces it fearlessly — a quality the camera captures so effortlessly.”
Zafar also noted that the audiences seem to connect with Ahaan because he isn’t trying to win them over with forced charm. Instead, he remains authentic and grounded in the moment. Describing him as someone who carries both gentleness and inner strength — a combination that makes viewers root for him, particularly in romantic stories, the director believes Ahaan has the potential to become one of those rare romantic heroes whose performances leave a lasting emotional impact even after the film ends.
Production for the film is scheduled to begin in Mumbai on March 30. After the initial schedule, the team will head to the UK for nearly 60 days to shoot the action entertainer. The film will also feature Sharvari Wagh in a leading role opposite Ahaan.
Zafar is keen to showcase a new side of Ahaan by blending his romantic appeal with high-octane action. He believes the actor’s natural vulnerability makes him particularly suited for this emotionally charged genre.
“A true romantic hero is not defined merely by softness, but by emotional intensity — something that translates beautifully into action.” explains the director. In his view, romance lends grace to a character while action adds fire. When these two elements come together, they create a powerful cinematic experience and reveal an entirely new dimension of Ahaan’s persona. Zafar also pointed out the actor’s expressive eyes carry a vulnerability that can make an action-romance especially compelling.”
He further added, “The audiences today seek more than just spectacle in action sequences. For them to truly connect, the fight must have meaning. When a hero is battling for what he believes in for love, ideals, or protection — the action carries far greater emotional weight, allowing viewers to engage with the story on a deeper level.”
